About Rimma
I am a Philadelphia-based ceramist with Eastern European roots. I work from my studio in Huntingdon Valley, Pennsylvania.
My work with clay is a continuation of my daily yoga and meditation practice. It is a way for me to connect with life, it's mystery and beauty. Nature's patterns, textures, colors and forms inspire me to convey that beauty in the most wholesome and balanced way.
How it all started…
Our daughter was getting married, and my husband and I decided to take ballroom dancing lessons to prepare for the big day. The classes were set in the evening at the local art studio after hours. Everything looked magical ~ paintings on the walls, the smell of raw clay and paint, rows of shelves with ceramic creations, and the music! The studio owner noticed my curious look and asked me if I would like to come one day and try ceramics. "Just come and touch the clay with your hands… see what you feel,” she said. Every time I would come for the dance lesson, the “touch the clay with your hands” phrase would come to me again and again. So, I gave it a try.
Well, here I am, 15 years later loving it!
What got me so strongly connected? Is it the feel of clay, the smell of it, or the whole mystical process when, from a perfectly centered lump of clay on the fast-moving wheel, the form appears, appears from the very stillness of that movement?
I will probably never know. But I do know what really matters to me
~when a stranger stops, looks at my piece, picks it up, and takes it home ~when that piece becomes a part of their life, creating a unique and genuine connection between that stranger and me.
That phrase, “just touch the clay with your hands… see what you feel" still resonates with me. Perhaps, it will resonate with you as well.
I am delighted to share my art with you, so that you too can be inspired to Live Your Dream Now.
